If you need a quick project, this Table Runner fits the bill.  It's simply squares and rectangles, easy enough for a beginner. Fabric 3 and 4 need to contrast with fabrics 1 and 2. Quilting can be as simple as stitch in the ditch, or quilt each fabric separately, or do and allover design. So many possiblities.
